Thornhill College is in the city of Londonderry and came into existence in 1848 when the school was established by the Sisters of Mercy. The school is a large Catholic girls’ school with around 1500 pupils and 100 teaching staff. Originally known as the Convent of Our Lady of Mercy School, Derry it changed its name to Thornhill College in 1947.
The school consistently ranks highly for pupil results at GCSE level and is a specialist school for Mathematics and physics. The College admits just over 200 pupils into year 8 and demand for places is usually high.
Thornhill College uses the new SEAG Single Entrance Transfer Test results as part of its intake criteria into year 8.
