Royal School, Armagh - a brief overview.

James 1st founded The Royal School, Armagh in 1608. It was one of three free schools that James 1st founded. (There are 4 other Royal schools.) Following the amalgamation with Armagh Girls’ School in 1986 the school now accepts both boys and girls and has about 700 pupils. It also has accommodation for 90 boarders who attend the school from all over the world. The school has been on its current site at College Hill since the 1770s. The school has a reputation for academic and sporting success and demand for places in year 8 is always high.

The Royal School Armagh uses the new SEAG Single Entrance Transfer Test results as part of its intake criteria into year 8.
