Carrickfergus Grammar School is a controlled grammar school situated in Carrickfergus. It opened in 1962 with just 60 pupils and 4 teachers. Over the years the number of pupils has grown and now there are just over 800 pupils from year 8 to year 14. To accommodate these increased numbers an extension was built in 1983. The school is situated on the North Road, on the former site of Thornfield Manor, overlooking the town of Carrickfergus, Carrickfergus Castle and Belfast Lough.In 2018, the school was the second top Controlled Grammar in Northern Ireland for GCSE Results.

Carrickfergus Grammar School uses the new SEAG Single Entrance Transfer Test results as part of its intake criteria into year 8.
