Many parents want to know how many applications each school had and how many children were accepted into a particular school each year.
The "Admissions No" is the number of pupils that the Education Authority say can enter year 8. This number can change slightly each year but won't change by very many.
What is also important is the "Total Admissions" number and this is the number of pupils who actually enter year 8. This is the number that might change slightly each year. It can change if parents appeal a decision and are granted a place or if the Education Authority allow the school to take more pupils based on factors such as a rise in the local primary school numbers or pupils admitted under "Special Circumstances."
The number that can change quite a bit each year is the "Total Applications." This is the number of parents that apply for their child to join a particular school. Many schools have far more applications than places that are available. This number can give an indication of the size of the local population as schools in and around Belfast tend to have more applications than rural schools.
When you look at this number and the school criteria it can help you understand if your child is likely to be accepted.
